10-Frame Cypress Medium 6 5/8-inch Super Box
Medium boxes go by a lot of names — honey super, Illinois super, medium — but they all mean the same thing: the box that sits above the brood nest where your bees store surplus honey. This 10-frame cypress medium box is lighter than a deep when full, which matters a lot once you're lifting it off the hive at harvest.
What You Get
- 7/8" thick cypress boards — naturally rot-resistant, holds up outdoors without paint
- 6 5/8" depth, sized for medium frames and foundation — lighter to lift than a deep box when full of honey
- Stacks directly on your existing 10-frame equipment
- Assembled boxes are stapled at the joints for strength, not just glued
- Choose unassembled, assembled, or assembled and painted depending on how much prep work you want to do yourself
Why We Recommend Medium Over Deep for Supers
You can use a deep box as a super, but a full deep of honey weighs close to 90 pounds. A full medium runs closer to 40. If you're pulling supers by hand at harvest, that difference matters — your back will thank you.
Seasonal Use
Add supers during nectar flow (spring through summer) as your colony fills existing frames. Adding one too early wastes bees' energy guarding empty space; adding one too late costs you honey. Watch frame fill rather than the calendar.
